The Romero House community welcomes refugee claimants with housing, immigration and settlement support. The Community Animator will support programming for children and their families in the Romero House community.
Duties and responsibilities
Assess community needs and coordinate appropriate activity for the summer e.g. community garden club, women’s group, adult social group
Support our weekly kids club with planning, facilitation, or assisting
Compile information on children in the Romero community and suitability for summer programming including camps, classes, day trips; assess child’s relevant strengths and needs
Assist families to sort out options for summer activities and develop plans of action while providing necessary support and assistance, including registering for summer camps (day camps and overnight)
Liaise with partner organizations that provide spots for summer camps for children in the Romero community
Keep program statistics on events and participation and presenting reports
Receive offers of activities (such as sporting event, art class, movie or play) and communicating those to relevant families who might be interested; coordinating the logistics of connecting families to those experiences
Gather feedback on events and facilitating a debrief process with relevant stakeholders
Assess need for bikes amongst clients
Assist with receiving offers of donated bikes and matching them with a family in need
Assist with education and material for safe riding (helmet, lock, bell, etc)
Assist with community events, as needed, such as our street party, Canada Day, inter-house soccer tournament, and team appreciation celebration
Record attendance and participation in activities and prepare report for the Community Programming Coordinator
Qualifications (Required)
Proficiency in English
Ability to manage multiple responsibilities independently and as part of a team
Assets (Helpful but not required)
Proficiency in other languages, especially Spanish
Experience working in diverse communities
Self awareness with respect to power, privilege, and prejudice and tools to promote equity, diversity, and inclusion
Experience with the Romero House community
Proficiency with Google Workspace, including Gmail, Calendar, Sheets, Forms
