Daily Protest against the STCA expansion

Since March 27th until April 28th, advocates are staging a daily protest  to the recent expansion of the Safe Third Country Agreement (STCA) in Toronto. We invite you to join us on this daily protest !

This expansion of the STCA has devastating impact on people who have been forcibly displaced and are seeking protection. The Agreement will force more people back to the US, where they will be at risk of arbitrary detention and potential return to persecution and possibly death. Applying the STCA between Ports of Entry will not stop irregular crossings, it will make them more dangerous and risky. Read the complete statement from the Canadian Council for Refugees at the Statement on the expansion of the Safe Third Country Agreement.

The Supreme Court is expected to rule soon on whether the existing STCA violates the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. We need to act now!

WHEN: Every weekday from 12 pm to 1 pm

WHERE: 511 Lawrence Avenue West (Bathurst and Lawrence)

If you are outside Toronto, consider staging a similar event in your area in locations such as the Parliament Hill in Ottawa, Trudeau’s constituency office in Montreal, the constituency office of any member of cabinet or the liberal caucus, or the office of a member from the NDP caucus.

Let’s be moved by the spirit of Oscar Romero. His presence will be with us on the streets.
