The smell of turkey and freshly prepared dishes filled the air, music brought the room to life, and children’s laughter mixed with the buzz of conversation. On Monday, October 12, the Romero House community came together for an evening of Thanksgiving, where more than a hundred people gathered around the table to share food, reconnect with old friends, and welcome new faces.

From 5 to 8 p.m., approximately 100 attendees and 15 volunteers celebrated the season and the community we continue to build. The shared meal featured more than 15 different dishes and desserts, each bringing something special to the table. Every year, we invite volunteers, current, and former residents to contribute a dish, and it’s always a joy to discover the many different ways people prepare turkey, traditional sides, and favourite recipes from their own kitchens and cultures.
Beyond the food, the evening was a wonderful opportunity to reconnect. Former residents caught up with familiar faces, met newer members of the Romero House community, and continued relationships that have grown over the years. With music filling the space and activities keeping the children entertained, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

At Romero House, community is built through moments like these: sharing a meal, welcoming someone new, catching up with an old friend, and making space for everyone to belong. Our Thanksgiving celebration was a reminder that the bonds we build extend far beyond our time living under the same roof.
We are grateful to all the volunteers, residents, former residents, and friends who contributed their time, food, and energy to make this gathering possible. Thank you for helping make Romero House a place where people can come together, celebrate, and feel at home.
