On October 4, Romero House brought our community together for our 3rd edition of Romero Moves, our annual 5km run, walk, and roll through High Park. Led by our Community Programming Coordinator, with support from our Communications and Development Coordinator, the event welcomed approximately 84 runners and 40 volunteers for a morning filled with movement and connection.

Participants began arriving around 8:30 a.m., ready to take on the 5km route. The first runner crossed the finish line in just under 20 minutes! After the run, everyone was invited to enjoy a community picnic, play games, take photos, and spend time together. Current and former residents brought delicious dishes to share, adding a special taste of home to the day.

The weather had other plans, though! A light drizzle turned into heavier rain just as runners began returning. But the rain couldn’t dampen the community spirit. Many people stayed to share food, catch up with old friends, and cheer on the participants as we handed out medals to the top three adult runners, teen runners, and child runners.

One of the most special parts of Romero Moves is seeing our community come together again. Families reconnect, old friends catch up, and everyone gets to see how much the children have grown and hear about the new chapters unfolding in one another’s lives. These moments remind us that Romero House is a community that continues to grow long after residents move on.
Moving Together for Romero House
Romero Moves is also an important fundraiser that raises flexible funds to support our work. This year’s fundraising goal was $40,000, and thanks to our generous donors and incredible peer-to-peer fundraisers, we’ve raised $35,709—89% of our goal! A special shoutout to The Junction Family & Friends and the Buisman/Meyers Family, who raised a combined $7,310. Thank you for going above and beyond!
We’re so close! Every donation counts. We’d love to reach our $40,000 goal before the end of October, and there’s still time to help us get there. Help us cross the finish line by supporting the campaign here:
Thank you!
Whether you ran, volunteered, cheered from the sidelines, shared a meal, or supported a fundraiser, thank you for being part of Romero Moves.

Thank you for moving with us, showing up for one another, and helping make Romero House a place where community continues to thrive.
