Romero House was proud to participate in this year’s Refugee Soccer Cup on Saturday, July 25th from 9:00am to 6:00pm. This annual community event brought together refugee-serving organizations, families, and supporters for a day of sport, connection, and celebration at Eglinton Flats Soccer Fields in Toronto.
The tournament was filled with laughter and a welcoming atmosphere, reminding us of the power of soccer to build connections across communities. We had a few families join us for the first time, both as participants and supporters, and others who were looking forward to the event all year. Romero House got off to a fantastic start, winning its opening match with two goals and advancing to the second round.
Although the team was eliminated after a hard-fought second game, the day was about much more than the final score. Current and former residents and staff enjoyed cheering from the sidelines, sharing lunch, and coming together for a joyful afternoon of the community spirit that defines the Refugee Soccer Cup each year.
