This month, we want to remember Leslie Dolman, a devoted Romero House volunteer whose quiet dedication shaped our community in countless ways. For over six years, she gave her time, skills, and heart supporting Romero House families by signing up kids for school, tending the Dorval garden, mentoring as an English conversation partner, strengthening our systems through her Salesforce expertise, and advocating for justice beyond our walls.
Leslie’s generosity was steady and humble. She showed up week after week as a volunteer, a donor, an advocate, and a friend. We are deeply grateful for the care and commitment she brought to Romero House, and we honour the legacy she leaves within our community.
Leslie’s daughter shared with us one of her favourite poems — words that reflect the quiet strength, compassion, and sense of purpose that guided her life. As you read, we invite you to hold Leslie in your thoughts and to recognize the spirit of generosity that continues to ripple through our community because of her.
“Look to this day, for it is life,
The very life of life!
And in its brief course
Lie all the varieties and realities of our existence:
The bliss of growth;
The glory of action;
And the splendor of beauty.
For yesterday is but a dream,
And tomorrow is only a vision.
But today, well lived,
Makes every yesterday a dream of happiness,
And every tomorrow a vision of hope.
Look well, therefore, to this day.
Such is the salutation to the dawn.”
