Romero Moves

On October 6, 2024, Romero House will be hosting our first Romero Moves! Join us for a 5km run/walk/roll in the beautiful scenery of High Park.

What is Romero Moves?

Previously, Romero House has participated in the Waterfront Marathon to raise funds for our work with refugee claimants. This year, we are launching our own event in order to make the race more accessible for all, and to bring a community focus to this fun occasion.

The event will consist of a 5km run/walk/roll through High Park, followed by a community picnic and an awards and thank you ceremony for all involved! All participants will receive a famous yellow Romero House t-shirt.

We want this event to include as many Romero House community members as possible. Sign up to participate, volunteer, or come to cheer us on!

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact RomeroMoves@romerohouse.org

This is Romero House’s biggest fundraiser of the year. Participants gather sponsors for their run/walk/roll through a CanadaHelps page.

You can support our participants here.

Frequently asked questions

What is the schedule for the day?

  • 9am – Participants arrive and check in (at High Park North Gate: Bloor + Colborne Lodge)
  • 10am – Romero Moves begins!
  • 11am-12:30pm – Lunch
  • 12pm – Short awards/thank you program

Do I have to run?

Participants are welcome to run but are also welcome to walk and roll (in a wheelchair or accessibility device). Children under 10 are welcome to scoot, but bikes are not permitted. Strollers are welcome!

Is this a race?

This event is open to everyone and meant to be fun and non-competitive. It is not meant to be a race, but more of a “Fun Run” (and walk and roll!)

However, for those who are motivated by some friendly competition, we will be timing the race, and will be able to share personal finishing times with participants. We will also have medals for the top three finishers in our two age categories (12 + under and 13+)

Do I have to fundraise to participate?

This is Romero House’s biggest fundraiser of the year, and participants are encouraged to get sponsors for their run/walk/roll. However, this is a community event so, even if you’re not able to get sponsors, we would love to have you participate!

What is the route?

We will begin at a High Park picnic area near the High Park North Gate (Bloor + Colborne Lodge). The route will travel south along West Road, continue South along Colborne Lodge Drive toward the lake and then travel across the bottom of the park to Parkside Drive. Then participants will turn around and travel back up along the same route, finishing back up at the picnic area.

The route will be clearly marked with signs and Marshals. Click here to download your map.
