On October 18th, Romero House participated in the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon as a featured charity. We had a team of over 50 participants who ran or walked in the 5K and Half-Marathon to raise money in order to sponsor a refugee family from Syria to come to Canada and be welcomed at Romero House. With incredible and generous support from many individuals, groups and organizations we surpassed our original goal and have fundraised over $65000 (the final total to come). This will allow us to sponsor two or more families and bring them to safety in Canada.
This was made possible by so many members of our community, including the refugees, volunteers, staff, and friends who helped out by volunteering at the water station, walked or ran, organized and planned, drove on the morning of the marathon, donated, promoted our runners, and so much more! It was an amazing day spent together and we send out a huge thank-you to them all and look forward to sharing further updates.
